Medellin, February 19th, 2024. With an investment strategy that highlights its commitment to sustainability and corporate responsibility, Protección obtained an outstanding score in the most recent evaluation carried out by the organization Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), an entity that seeks to bring together responsible investors globally to work collaboratively to achieve sustainable markets.
This score, which places the company among the 10 best asset management companies in Latin America and above the world average, is due to the progress in the implementation of Protección’s sustainable investment strategy and the analysis that since 2020 it has carried out to 100% its new investment opportunities, applying the ESG criteria, which means that an expert investment team exhaustively evaluates the background of each investment, considering, in addition to being aligned with the brand's purpose, its environmental, social and governance impacts.
“These results, which not only stand out nationally, but also position us as a leading company in the European and Latin American markets, demonstrate that for Protección, sustainability is a conviction, which has challenged us to develop and implement a process of sustainable investment of world standards and with the potential to be replicated by other companies in the industry” comments Juan David Correa, Protección’s president.
Over 47 companies in the region participated in this evaluation, and Protección was able to stand out because during 2023, the company was able to triple the assets under management with an ESG analysis, thus demonstrating its commitment and conviction to contribute to the sustainable development of the planet. Other highlights that allowed for the high evaluation of Protección, was the implementation of the sectoral climate change risk identification process, which identified sectors with high vulnerability to these risks, and the actions by which the company fostered its confidence-building measures through the implementation of clear processes and roles in sustainable investment, with permanent review by external committees that evaluate the development of the strategy.
Additionally, Protección has investments in assets with sustainable labels, positioning it as one of the institutional investors with the largest number of labeled bonds, which aim to finance companies, projects and initiatives that promote the sustainable development of society.
A figure worth highlighting is that the heritage management portfolios managed by Protección with sustainability attributes during 2023, avoided the emission of 1,586 tons of CO2, which is equivalent to avoiding the deforestation of 58 hectares or 34 soccer fields of mature forest.
