Mexico City, October 20, 2023. Afore SURA, an ally of the National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Users of Financial Services (CONDUSEF), once again participated in the National Financial Education Week (SNEF) which took place from 23 – 29 of October in a hybrid format, with the objective to keep promoting financial education helping Mexicans get a better retirement pension, and act today to achieve it.
SURA seeks to highlight the importance of the Afore and the main benefits they provide to workers. The decisions that are made with respect to the Afore are the watershed of a better future, for this reason, the presentations were aimed at young people who are starting their career (Your first job, your first Afore) and adults who seek to have more information about the construction and generation of wealth to enjoy each stage of their life and enjoy better retirement conditions (The Pension Route and Afore: How does it benefit me and my family?).
National Financial Education Week is an annual event promoted by CONDUSEF, with the aim of promoting financial education and improving people's ability to make informed and responsible decisions related to their income. The motto of the 2023 edition was: Control your finances and improve your financial health, which focuses on encouraging better financial decisions among Mexicans, actively promoting their education.
This year, Afore SURA participated with three themes, carried out remotely and in person, taught by the experts Gerardo Chavarría, Manager of Business Initiatives: Raymundo Orellan, Quality and Customer Service Manager and Custodio Ramírez, Training Specialist at SURA. Below, we share the details of the activities that Afore SURA will carry out between October 23 and 29 within the framework of SNEF 2023:
Your first job, your first Afore
This presentation was aimed at young people who are entering the workforce for the first time. Custodio Ramírez, SURA's Training Specialist, explained the factors that they should consider when they formally enter a company. In addition to the benefit of having social security, young people should be aware that choosing their Afore and acquiring the habit of saving permanently are decisions that they can make today to generate economic well-being and meet their financial goals at each stage of their lives.
The Pension Route
In this presentation, Gerardo Chavarría, Business Initiatives Manager, addressed the Pension Route SURA, the only guide of steps that the workers of Law 73 and Law 97 must follow in preparation of when the time comes, so they can process their pension plan without any setbacks. Likewise, this guide seeks to promote that people know the estimated amount they will receive in their pension plan and, with it, increase it through Voluntary Contributions. It should be noted that more than 1.3 million people has already calculated their pension plan.
Afore: How it benefits me and my family?
In this talk, Raymundo Orellan, Quality and Customer Service Manager, explained to the workers in a simple and clear way relevant topics such as: learning to identify which pension scheme they belongs to, what are the different types of pension plans, how to protect their family in case of death, why it is important to have beneficiaries registered and, how to make a savings plan in their Afore today to meet their financial goals at each stage of their life and thus be able to have a fruitful future.
In 2022, the SNEF successfully concluded eight face-to-face events around Mexico, 1,199 activities in 275 different public and private institutions, as well as various talks in virtual auditoriums. A total of 503 speakers and 34 influencers participated. Likewise, 106,972 direct attendees, which added to the streaming modality, reaching 263,955 people.
Through the SNEF in 2023, Afore SURA reaffirms its commitment to join forces with various institutions in the public and private sectors to promote the culture of savings, with the purpose of increasing the economic well-being of Mexican families. In this sense, SURA seeks to raise awareness on the importance of investing and preparing, via Voluntary Savings, to achieve a successful retirement.
